The Top 15 Least Expensive European Car Hire DestinationsFamilies planning to rent a car abroad this summer should look to the Eastern Mediterranean for best value, where car hire is cheapest according to the latest Post Office (UK) Travel Money Car Rental Report. At the other end of the scale hiring a car in the Eurozone costs the most in Mallorca and rental costs are highest of all, throughout Europe, in Norway.
Cyprus emerged as best value in the Post Office Travel Money survey of 16 European destinations – both for a week’s basic car rental and when a tank of unleaded petrol plus two extras – Sat Nav hire and an additional driver – were added, two options that many people would opt for.
At a total cost of about €372*, a week’s rental cost from Larnaca Airport in Cyprus was less than half the price for the same rental in Norway (€775) and about €277 less than in Mallorca (€649). The Spanish Balearic Island destination was the most expensive of 11 Eurozone destinations surveyed.
Andrew Brown of the Post Office commented: “Don’t leave it until you get to your holiday destination to find out how much the hire car is really going to cost. Calculate all the costs by doing your homework in advance to find out the realistic price of car rental and holiday motoring.”
